I had the weirdest dream last night. That I was in negotiations to buy an NHL team. Exciting, right? But then it turned out to be the Ottawa Senators. Which, well, more of a nightmare than anything. Is there some form of PTSD that manifests as shitty sports franchises?

Ottawa is a great city. It deserves a good hockey team.

Also, the Leafs clawed their way back to .500. As someone who went to his first Leafs game at less than a year old, it is way to early in the season to be disappointed in them. It's always best to wait late in the season to be disappointed by them.

We disagree. It is a disturbingly familiar pattern of playing down to your opponent's level and losing against the worst teams in the league, and they have given us no reason to expect this year will be any different than the last eight.

We hope we are wrong. We would love nothing more than to be wrong here, but they have made it so hard to believe.

What doesn't fit the narrative is that the last three wins came against teams with significantly better records than them. And their loss was to the Pacific division leader. And this is a team on one leg with their goalie issues.

Look, decades of futile Leafs fandom has taught me this: you can't approach this fandom like a Canadians or a Yankees fan. Wait until it gets deep into the season before worrying about things one way or another.
